Jim Short

Jim Short earned his Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama from UC San Diego and UC Irvine, his M.A. in Performance Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, and his B.A. in Theatre and History from Rhodes College in Memphis. Before joining UCSD’s Analytical Writing Program, he taught for the Warren College Writing Program as well as theatre and film courses for UC San Diego and San Diego State University. His research interests include the masked theatre of the Italian commedia dell’arte, children and/in performance, theories of comedy and laughter, staged witchcraft, and performative risk-taking. Jim also works as a director and dramaturg; most recently, he directed a film adaptation of Jennifer Haley’s The Nether.
