Profile
Will Given earned his Ph.D. in Theatre & Drama and his B.A. in Literatures in English from UC San Diego. He has taught writing at UC San Diego for more than 15 years, including seven years in the Muir College Writing Program. Prof. Given currently teaches analytical writing and also serves as the Associate Director of Curriculum Development in the Analytical Writing Program. His area of specialization is early film from the belle époque period through the silent film era, with a special focus on the dynamics between the spectator and performer. His work on the Lindy Hop has been published in The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Theatre and his work on Alfred Hitchcock’s film, Psycho, has been published in Horror Literature and Dark Fantasy: Challenging Genres. Prof. Given is a screenwriter and has served as a screenwriting judge for the Austin Film Festival and the Catalina Island Film Festival. He is also a playwright and member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
