Erik Homenick received his Ph.D. in Literature (Cultural Studies) from UC San Diego as well as an M.A. and B.A. in French from San Diego State University. Before joining UCSD’s Analytical Writing Program, Dr. Homenick taught in the Muir College Writing Program. Additionally, he has taught French at UC San Diego, San Diego State University, San Diego City College, and San Diego Mesa College. His main research interests include representations of monstrosity in literary and cinematic works (Monster Theory), film studies, and musicology. His doctoral dissertation combines those three areas of study to analyze how the Japanese composer Akira Ifukube employs music in Godzilla films to (re)frame monstrosity as a mode of nationalist and anti-modern expression. His other research interests include French literature from the sixteenth to nineteenth century.
